Apples
In particular vegetable farming has tradition in our region. So, we reaped many small cucumbers and carried heavy buckets full of tomatoes in our childhood days.
Not before 1989 our parents planted the first apple trees. 'For their old age', they said. Apples can be harvested and pressed without stooping down! Therefore, only modern apple cultivars with a great taste and, depending on the cultivar, very good storage stability grow on our fields.
It would be interesting to find out whether there are also an apple cultivars native in Northern Burgenland. Such that already grow here for centuries. Who knows more?
At the time of writing we farm about 9 hectare of apple fields between Wallern, Tadten, and St. Andrä am Zicksee.
Which cultivars are offered in our orchard depends on when they are ripe. The sun-ripened apples are gathered by hand.
