Gala

Gala is ripe in autumn and an excellent apple for sweet tarts and best apple strudels. Children love them, not only because of their sweetness, but, also because of their size:
Flavour: Sweet and grainy, mild
Colour: flamy red, yellow flesh
Shape: small, cone-shaped
Ripening: mid to end of September
Uses: Excellent as fresh fruit eating and in salads
It was developed in New Zealand in 1934 and first marketed after 1960. In addition to the Gala Royal, the original, there are also other varieties of the Gala, e.g., the Gala Imperial and the Gala Schniga. The latter has an almost purple skin.
